Vowels and Maatras

LESSON 9

In the class on January 21st, 2011, we reviewed all the vowels. We also completed the study of all the Maatras or the Vowel modifications.

I notice that the class notes of the last few sessions do not have the numbers beyond 15 through 20, though we have been learning them in class. These are as below:

१६ (16) षोडश (Shodaza)
१७ (17) सप्तदश (Saptadaza)
१८ (18) अष्टदश (Ashtadaza)
१९ (19) एकोनविम्शति or नवदश (Ekonavimshati or Navadaza)
२० (20) विंशति (Vimshati)

Homework:
  1. Write the maatras for the last 6 vowels listed above 100 times. Please remember to pronounce the words while writing.
  2. Please revise the numbers from 1 to 19. You should be comfortable saying the numbers as well as writing the numerals in Sanskrit.
  3. We will also continue introducing ourselves and learning the meaning of our names. To make it interesting for everybody, as each of you introduce yourselves and explain the meaning of your names, if you can include any anecdotes or associations about your name it would be wonderful.
We will meet again on January28th
